British Open Pre-Qualification offers all players the opportunity to
compete against the world’s very best professionals in the most,
prestigious and longest established squash championships.
The British Open has been staged since 1922 and is considered the
sport’s blue riband event and the ‘Wimbledon of Squash’. Every
professional player strives to win the championships and any player
who has won the British Open can lay claim to the status of ‘Number
One in the World’. Past champions include: Jahangir Khan (10 titles
from 1982 -1991), Geoff Hunt (8 titles from 1969-1981), Hashim Khan
(7 titles from 1951-1958), Jonah Barrington (6 titles from
1967-1973), Jansher Khan (6 titles from 1992-1997), Heather McKay
(16 titles from 1962-1977), Susan Devoy (8 titles from 1984-1992),
Michelle Martin (6 titles from 1993-1998) and Sarah Fitz-Gerald (2
titles 2001 & 2002).
The 2007 Dunlop British Open Pre-Qualification will comprise Men’s
and Women’s Championships with two men’s and women’s qualification
places awarded to the respective 2007 British Open Pre-Qualification
finalists who will progress to the Dunlop British Open – Manchester
2007 championships which will be watched by over 6,000 spectators
from the 20th to 24th September.
PLAYING FORMAT & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
The 2007 Dunlop British Open Pre-Qualification will be played to
England Squash regulations and disciplinary procedures with all
matches played between the 10th and 12th August at The Northern Club
in Didsbury, Manchester.
11-PAR scoring will be used for all men’s matches and international
scoring (to 9) will be used for all women’s matches.
All players must complete an Official Entry Form and a £20.00 entry
fee must accompany each entry form together with a stamped addressed
envelope. All players will be eligible for free admission, subject
to availability, to the ATCO Super Series Finals – Manchester 2007
matches played on the all-glass show court at the National Squash
Centre, Manchester from the 9th to 12th August.
Withdrawal from the Dunlop British Open Pre-Qualification must be
notified to the Competition Manager as soon as possible by telephone
with a valid reason. Your reason for withdrawal, should then be
confirmed in writing to England Squash, National Squash Centre,
Sportcity, Manchester M11 3FF (Fax 0161 231 4231) within seven days
and in the event of injury, should be accompanied by a letter of
explanation and a doctors certificate.
All competitors are required to referee and mark matches when asked.
England Squash membership is compulsory for all players wishing to
compete in England Squash sanctioned events.
Competitors must report to the tournament desk at least 30 minutes
before all of their scheduled start times. Players not reporting or
are unavailable at the appropriate time of their scheduled match
start time are libel to be scratched.
Entries will not be accepted after noon on Wednesday 1st August and
no entries will be accepted without a fully completed competition
entry form and correct fees. No telephone entries will be accepted.
